Group Update

Hi everyone!

For this collaborative project my group and I will be showing the class how to send a "Good" email. I will be working with Jacob, Emily and Devin for this project.

We split our project into four sections so each of us would have something to contribute. So far everything is going great and we hope to have everything down by the end of the next class.

Working in groups usually makes me a little nervous because of previous bad experiences, but with this group I am not worried. Everyone seems to be pulling their own weight and I am excited to see how everything turns out!

How to make an Origami Crane

I will be creating instructions on how to fold a paper Crane. Ever since I learned how to make one in the fourth grade I've never forgotten. I think this will be difficult especially difficult, but with the use of pictures I think it will make things easier. I am also so used to creation these folded pieces that I think I will have trouble breaking things down into steps.

Wish me luck!

Designing Documents and Web Sites

This section of the book primarily focused on the layout and design of webpages and documents.  The chapter discussed ways to make your document easier to read by using and understanding design principles: Proximity Alignment and Repetition.  I think these ideas are important to your audience.  I know how frustrating it can be when you try to navigate a webpage and you have no idea where anything is because the maker or designer of the page has not considered these design principles.

I found that this section was especially useful because layout and design are not things I think about consciously when viewing a document. After looking at different examples presented in the book I saw how planning the page of a document can make a huge difference to the aesthetics of your document making it so much easier for your audience to read. This idea here shows that not only are you words and the comprehensiveness of your piece Important to how easily a reader can navigate your webpage or document but these key ideas to keep in mind for the design and layout make an impact as well.

5-Light Floor Lamp

The document I am choosing to analyze for my first easy are the instructions for the assembly of a 5-Light Floor Lamp. I bought the lamp at Bed, Bath and Beyond in August. I chose this piece of work because it is my most basic idea of what technical writing is. The instructions were helpful as I assembled the lamp so I believe that it is a good example of technical writing since it served its purpose.
